december 27th

tomorrow i am going to weigh in and see what the damage is. i've been doing pretty good with exercise. i did 4 miles on the treadmill on the 24th, 26th, and today the 27th. tomorrow i will get back in that gym for more.

i hope everyone is enjoying their holidays! =D

merry christmas eve

i have been neglecting exercise in the past couple of days so today it's back to the gym. i did a lot of jumping around on friday and my muscles have been really sore. still, i feel like someone has kicked me in the ribs. ouchy.

i'm going to try and run on the treadmill for 30 minutes. maybe i should check the temp and see what is going on outside. my bf got me this really cute lululemon workout outfit which is nicer than my regular clothes.

today i'm eating

a few things i shouldn't (but already have)
reduced sugar apple cinnamon oatmeal
soup probably
maybe a salad - i should go grocery shopping

and now on to the gym.

bonjour

today i am a modelka (that's polish for model). are you excited? i am! i am more excited about christmas break starting tonight actually. and the office is going here for lunch. hallelujah! crepes and french onion soup and more delicious yums. and then finally a break from work.

this week i travelled 24 miles in the gym.

monday:
1 mile walking
3 miles running
4 miles biking

same on wednesday and last night.

i had peanut butter on whole wheat toast for breakfast. i hope everyone has a healthy and happy friday!

coworkers

i work in an office with all women. i get along with everyone. partly because i've only been working here for a year and a half and partly because i'm really laid back and would never dream of causing trouble with anyone. do your work and let it go. after all, i consider work to be just work. yes i come here monday to friday and enjoy the work i do (as much as anyone can) but my main life, the more important part, is all about home and family and friends.

anyway. on monday i brought in some of those dark chocolate cookie mounds that i made on sunday. delicious right. and then one of my coworkers says, "you must not eat any of your baking" and i said, "actually i had two today and about six yesterday, and she just looked at me like she didn't believe me and said, "okaaayyyyyyyyy." long and drawn out okay? not okay!

there is this other woman in my office who is doing a "medically supervised" weight loss plan, basically atkins. great time of year to be doing that. anyway, people are bringing in treats and stuff and she is whining on and on about how "hard" we are making it for her. we are going out for lunch on friday and she wanted to change the restaurant to accommodate her ridiculous diet. doing a "diet" like atkins is a choice. it isn't hard. do you want to know what is hard: eating well and making the right choices AND pumping it out in the gym 3-5 or more times per week. it's hard putting in the effort all/most of the time and waiting to see results. it makes me laugh when people think they can sustain weight loss without activity. you fools!

anyway, i probably sound bitter but i don't care that much. last night i went to the gym as planned and did 4 miles (3 running) on the treadmill, some weights, squats, situps, and then 4 miles on the stationary bike. two more days of work including today and then HOLIDAYS!

today i'm eating:

1 lemon social tea cookie
2 almonds
coffee
oatmeal with blueberries, chocolate chips, and almonds
a tv dinner (homestyle meatloaf with mashed potatoes) - not healthy but not too high in points, and in my freezer and i want it to stop looking at me every day.
dinner is a mystery.

what's the point

what is the point of eating too many holiday sweets, exercising less, gaining weight, and then complaining about it later, feeling fat and frumpish, wondering why it seemed okay to stuff it in at the time? there is no point really. in my mind there are two options for the holidays. okay three. actually four.

1) eat more, exercise more, and maintain a nice weight.

2) eat more, exercise less, and gain weight (double f=fat and frumpish).

3) eat less, exercise less, and maintain weight.

4) eat less, exercise more, and lose weight (ha ha ha).

i would choose, in order: 1, 3, 2, 4.

i have made plans to go to the gym (plans = made time and definitely will go, since it's just downstairs ha) tonight and tomorrow night. i also went on monday so that's pretty good for the week. i am now loving this condo gym. it's always empty enough that i can get on any machine i want. and having those TVs is a huge bonus because now at the end of my workout sometimes i'll just ride the stationary bike for 20 minutes watching a program of my choice... it's like nothing!

three more days of work until christmas break - yabba dabba doooooooo!

today i'm eating:
2 slices of whole wheat bread with PB2 peanut butter
fat free cottage cheese with mixed berries (already in the bottom)
pc blue menu whole wheat penne with roasted vegetables

and hopefully that's it until dinner time. :)

dark chocolate cookie mounds

for cara i'm posting this recipe. seriously they taste like those two-bite brownies that i can never bring myself to buy, with good reason.

i modified the recipe a bit and added crushed white chocolate (like chips) from a past-failed bark baking attempt. also i only baked them for 10 minutes because that is when the tops cracked and they were nice and chewalicious inside. the way all cookies should be.

from homebasics:

Skill: Easy
Prep time: 10 mins
Cook time: 12 mins
Makes: 48 cookies

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise
4 squares (1 oz each) unsweetened chocolate, melted
2 tsp vanilla extract
confectioners sugar or decorative sugar

Preheat the oven to 350° F (180° C). In a small bowl, combine the flour and baking powder; set aside. In a large bowl, with an electric mixer, beat the eggs, granulated sugar, mayonnaise, chocolate and vanilla for 2 minutes. Beat in the flour mixture until blended. Shape the dough by level tablespoonfuls into balls then place on ungreased baking sheets, 2-inches 5 cm) apart.

Bake 12 minutes or until tops crack. Immediately transfer the cookies to a wire rack and cool completely. Sprinkle with confectioners sugar or decorative sugar while still warm. Store in a tightly covered container.

guess what?

my life is pretty awesome. i'm friends with this photographer guy - mostly through facebook - he shoots for the globe * and *mail and ma*clean's * magazine (i'm trying to derail search engines here haha - will it work?) anyway... he contacted me because he is shooting the cd cover of this disco-pop-funk band from que*bec and wants ME yes ME to be on it. at first i thought it was pretty ridiculous and that someone like ME shouldn't do that, but then i thought - why not!? i felt a bit shafted after i didn't become an aveda hair model a couple of months ago. and it should be really fun. i am going to jump on a bed in short shorts or something - which might seem a little weird to some, but i've been assured that it's going to be "cute" not "risque" and really, i'll only be young once so now is the time.

that's pretty much it - except the biggest loser finale is tonight.

today i'm eating:

cheerios with soy milk
a chocolate toffee treat
coffee coffee coffee
oatmeal with raspberries and blueberries
chili
2 slices whole wheat bread
edamame

let me end this post by saying that i love edamame. for those who don't know - it's soy beans in the pods. they come frozen in a bag and you boil them for just a few minutes until you have warm soybeans (still in the pods). then you make a yummy dip consisting of a) soy sauce and b) memories of thailand president's choice sauce. be warned - that thai sauce is spicy! so you dip, then you suck (out the beans.) mmmmm.

p.s.

i got the closed toe shoes from my last post. they are very nice!

back on monday

it's a winter wonderland out there today. the snow on the weekend was insane. i only left the house yesterday to walk to the grocery store (it's very close.) my anniversary went very well. i made my bf a photo scrapbook with this awesome backgrounds. he really liked it! we went skating and to the ballet and to a comedy show - recreating our first date. oh, young love. so nice.

another rad thing is that my couch was delivered on saturday - yahoo! having somewhere to sit is really something you don't think to appreciate until you don't have it haha. i will take a photo because it's a very attractive piece of furniture.

one more week of work - and one more week until christmas! ahhhhh! i got my bf tickets to the nutcracker, and since that was his surprise for our date on the weekend i'll have to think of something else.

weight wise everything is going well even though i've been eating holiday treats. i've been pretty active and usually only eat two bigger meals on the weekend. tonight i will hit the gym for treadmill cardio.

today's menu:

fat free cottage cheese with mixed berries
dark chocolate cookie mound (i made these and brought them to work)
oatmeal with raspberries
carrots and dip (homemade fat free sour cream and french onion dip powder)
2 slices whole wheat bread
chef boyardee microwave NHL pasta cup. mmmmm.

it's thursday

thanks for all of your nice comments about my view. last night was the condo's first annual christmas party. it was fun but free booze and i'm not feeling my usual self this morning. i didn't overdo it *too* much but i normally like to save boozing-it-up for the weekend when i can sleep in until noon. i have a day off in lieu of moving so i might take it tomorrow. before the weekend i want to:

1) run on the treadmill/pump it up at the gym once more.

2) make that white chocolate blueberry almond bark for my bf's staff party.

3) maybe make these chocolate mound things i saw in a recipe today. i don't really have a problem with christmas treats - usually they are so decadent i only want one or two. and, really, that's what the condo gym is for - to work it off.

4) make my bf a one-year anniversary present. i won't say what it is yet in case he stumbles upon this blog, which i highly doubt he would but you never can be too careful. anyway it involves "arts and crafts."

5) go to the naturalizer shoe store because i saw some super-hot shoes. these ones or these ones. although truthfully i don't need more shoes especially heels so maybe i can *not* get any. maybe.

6) finish unpacking (books mostly) and bring boxes down to the storage locker. it would be nice to have this done before the weekend starts.

here is what i'm eating today:

fat free vanilla pudding cup
oatmeal
carrot soup
2 slices bodywise bread
social tea cookies, what else
for dinner, not sure yet

the view

i just wrote a big entry and deleted it by mistake before posting - argh! this morning i managed to drag my bum out of bed at 6:50 am to go downstairs to the condo gym. i did 20 minutes on the elliptical, some weights, 10 minutes on the bike, and sit-ups. good enough. then i came back upstairs and noticed that the view was quite "breathtaking," so i took some pics.

east view

closer look at downtown

south view and lake ontario

another city scape

last night at book club i had a stella (beer) and a creme brule. it was delicious and worth it. tonight is the first annual condo christmas party - wine and cheese yum yum. here is what i'm eating today:

fibre granola bar
oatmeal with blueberries
pc blue menu vegetable lasagna
wine and cheese
and for dinner - je ne sais quoi.

hello lover

i can't wait for the sex and the city movie. next topic!

last night i tried out the condo gym. it's not great, but not that bad. i hate how all the weight machines are just one super giant weight machine - it feels very contained. also, not the same quality as all of the individual machines at my old gym. i ran on the treadmill for 30 minutes as well. there are two big flat screen TVs - one positioned in front of the bikes, and one in front of the elliptical machines. in front of the treadmills there is... a big white wall. actually it's a window but the blinds were pulled down. not the most exciting but still better than nothing. i think these machines are telling me i'm burning more calories than i'm actually burning - because i can't enter my weight at the beginning of the workout. i'll have to judge my workouts by time instead of calories burned.

today is the first of many holiday parties. it's my book club and this month we read "atonement" by ian mcewan. it is now a movie out in theatres, which i haven't seen yet but plan to eventually. the book is quite nice so i would recommend it.

tomorrow there it is the "first annual" christmas party in my condo, so i'm going to that and hope to meet some new peeps. yes, i said peeps - friends, not easter peeps if you are confused. friday is my bf's staff party - i was thinking about making some chocolate bark with blueberry bite that i saw in the paper yesterday. i love blueberries. saturday my couch is being delivered and it's also my one-yearaversary. swoon! in addition to all of that, my best friend who has been living in australia for the past year is coming home this week and i'm going to visit her on sunday. ho ho holy moly busy week!

today i'm eating:

1 slice of bodywise bread
1 clementine
pc blue menu cinnamon and spice oatmeal with blueberries
carrot slices
chef boyardee macaroni and cheese
2 slices of bodywise bread
1 clementine

and for dinner - i'm thinking a big salad with chicken. that way maybe i'll order dessert at bookclub.

moop it's monday

i am totally moved! yayayayayayayayayayay. my bf and i loaded up my car on friday and went over to check things out. very exciting and the view is amazing. i should take some pictures of it tonight - it's "breathtaking" - remember when elaine's dentist called her breathtaking on seinfeld - and then the ugly baby too, haha. anyway - on saturday i woke up around 8 and packed/organized some more. our moving friend came over around noon and the boys did a great job of loading up the van - it was packed to the brim. my mom was already at the condo cleaning stuff up and getting things ready. i carried over some breakables in my car and took two trips - the van took three trips, the last one just a big chair and my bicycle.

yesterday i put stuff away like all of my clothes - very important! the kitchen is also set up as well. kitchen, bedroom, bathroom are the most important rooms. last night i checked the mail for the first time and also peeked in the storage locker - it's a lot bigger than i thought it would be which is great because now i can "cut the crap". i hate useless clutter more than anything.

yesterday the cable guy came and set up the cable tv and internet, phewf! actually i didn't miss it at all for one day. and i was receiving cable anyway. my couch is arriving next saturday, and then the transformation will be complete. almost. except for painting and blinds - it's a very bright morning. i'm gonna get some sleeping masks like audrey hepburn in breakfast at tiffany's in the meantime. tonight i have to bring my bike down to one of the bike lockers. they all look pretty full to me. also, i'm going to test out the new gym. i am a little nervous about going which is ridiculous. i feel like i'm arriving late to the party or something.

meals could have been better on the weekend but i can justify my poor eating by all of the moving around! i had a bagel (this never happens - white flour oh god!), pizza, pasta, tortilla chips with salsa... i guess not that bad but not my typical healthy fare.

today i'm eating:

pc blue menu oatmeal with blueberries
2 social tea cookies
lean cuisine
2 more social tea cookies
fat free vanilla yogurt

that's all for now. i'm pretty hungry though! this day needs to hurry up and end so i can get back to my fabulous new living space. pictures to come, but i want to wait until it's semi-presentable. happy monday!

friday aka the first day of my new life

guess what today is my fellow bloggies? it's CONDO day! hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah! my mom (who conveniently is a real estate law clerk) is going to courier the keys over sometime today, and then tonight i'm heading over to run around in it like a chicken without a head. or a bat out of hell. yikes. i just got this email from my mom:

"should I send courier soon - if no parking - can they call you and you can
come down ??? Are you going to unit for sure tonight ?? Don't want to waste
money on courier if you are not going to go to new apt. and dance naked ;o)"

ha. of course i'm going - GOSH! (like napoleon dynamite would say)

packing is sort of mostly done. all my stuff is up from the basement, the kitchen except for fridge contents is all packed - turns out 99% of the kitchen stuff was mine. interesting for a few reasons... some of my bedroom is done. all the books and videos etc are packed. anyway, talking about packing is boring me.

yesterday i went to the gym and ran for 30 minutes on the treadmill without stopping. i have to really push myself to do this. after that i hike up the incline and pump until i've burned about 400 calories total (ocd). i also picked up a few necessary items for the move including: toilet paper, cat litter, cat food, a new litterbox scooper (i want all poo-related items to be new), and most importantly dishwasher liquid. this is a big deal for me because i've NEVER had to buy this before. why? because i've never had a dishwasher. and now i finally do!

today i'm eating:

pc blue menu multigrain oatmeal with blueberries
clementines
lean cuisine meat lasagna
social tea cookies
latte from starbucks maybe. i just got "the almost moon" by alice sebold in from the library and hope to read it at lunch.

Thursday, December 6, 2007

home today

i am at home today. good because i can do a major packing job. it's a lot of work. i am washing all the blankets and stuff. i don't want a) anything crappy or b) anything dirty in the c) fabulous new condo. so anyway. short post today because i want to read all of your blogs and get back to work. maybe i can make it to the gym around 3pm - it's heaven so empty before all the working stiffs get there.

for breakfast i am having a pc blue menu multigrain oatmeal with a 1/4 cup of hollynog soy and 1/2 cup fat free vanilla soymilk. and coffee. yum yum. i'm trying to use up stuff in the fridge. maybe i'll post more later.

vanity sizing

vanity sizing

this really annoys me.

why? because i am a reasonably sized person. when i shop in thrift stores i have a hard time zipping up dresses (i have wide shoulders) but at the joe fresh loblaws store, an xs is much too large. i am swimming in size 4 pants. this is ridiculous.

yes, i am a thin person and generally have small bone structure but i'm not a little elf or anything. i understand that sizes in stores vary and that's fine, but what is the purpose of convincing ourselves we are not as large as we actually are? vanity? doesn't seem worth it to me.

wednesday

hi everybody. i'm in a great mood today even though i missed my alarm and had to rush around like a mad fool this morning. i drank a cup of tea in three giant gulps - glug glug glug mmmm. my bf took his coffee on the road in a plastic cup. the rock show at tattoo was fun - it's a REALLY nice new bar/club. they serve food and have these long gothic style tables. and the hand dryers in the bathroom have "extreme power" and almost blew me right out of the room. tonight is another gig - this time at grace o malleys and is a holiday fundraiser. should be funtastic!

i have discovered a great new meal for when you want something filling, comforting, and chocolate. mix one packet pc blue menu multigrain oatmeal with light silk soymilk or skim milk and one packet sweetener. microwave and then add 1 tbsp of chocolate chips. yummmmmmm. that's what i had for dinner last night and it was really good. i also went to the gym and did another 30 minutes running on the treadmill, although not continuously. running is REALLY trimming my stomach. if i ever get a "pack" of abs i'll be sure to take a picture. maybe. ;o)

today i'm eating

a lemon tea social cookie
tea
coffee
clementines
oatmeal
chocolate
lean cuisine meat lasagna
fat free vanilla yogurt

and for dinner not sure yet.

chart attack

i found this chart maker thing on Roni's blog and i couldn't help but plug in my food today (at work). very neat :o)

FoodUnits
1/3 cup old fashioned oatmeal2
1/3 cup pumpkin0
clementines (3)1.5
whole wheat penne with vegetables5
2 slices sprouted grains bread2
apple1
4 social tea cookies2
Total:13

soft opening tuesday

weird title? maybe. last night i went to the gym right after work. i ran on the treadmill for 30 minutes non-stop and then walked on an incline until i burned 400 cals total. i have a weird obsession about burning a rounded number of calories, or going a certain distance (even numbers only). ocd? maybe. anyway, i kept my eyes on the screen and i am running 5k in just over 29 minutes, which i am really happy with. i did the usual weights and got back on the elliptical for 20 minutes because i know i won't have a lot of gym time this week. i wasn't feeling too good - all shivery. i blame my office because the heat doesn't work and it's freezing. yesterday i wore my coat all day.

last night i packed up all the books and videos in my living room. and washed towels. i have a lot of books. at least 6 boxes full of them—it's always the biggest pain when moving. i think my best bet is to go from room to room and pack one room at a time, that way i can just leave each room behind. it's hard packing because my roommate isn't moving out until the end of the month, so i'm sorting between both of our stuffs.

today i brought my gym stuff again to go right after work. i'm only going maybe and if i do just the elliptical, no running. i want to give myself a day off between runs and tonight is the "soft opening" of the tattoo bar and i'm going to see my bf's band play.

here is what's on the menu today:

old fashioned oatmeal with sweetener brown sugar and cinnamon, and pumpkin
3 mini clementines
microwave meal of whole wheat penne and vegetables
2 slices sprouted grains toast
apple
probably some social tea cookies (yum)

and dinner is a mystery. i have 1/2 spaghetti squash left from last night so probably that and something else.

manic monday

this week is going to be crazy. not only am i moving on saturday, but my boyfriend's band is playing three, yes three, shows this week. on tuesday, wednesday, and friday. friday is this vip industry party club opening for this new tattoo rock bar. apparently that girl from la ink on tlc is going to be there - oooooohweeeeee. so tonight i am going to the gym right after work and starting to put things into boxes. i'm hoping tonight i can get all of the books and video tapes done. maybe i should try to tackle part of the kitchen as well.

this week i am going to try counting points in my head, without tracking on the blog. i am feeling pretty fit lately, but am up a bit on the scale.

here is what i'm eating today:

bran flakes and light vanilla soymilk
second cup granola bar
fat free vanilla yogurt
smoked meat sandwich with swiss cheese
apple
two clementines
almonds
spaghetti squash

freitag

guess what? last night i ran for 30 minutes non-stop on the treadmill. at first i was struggling for 25. then i thought, week eight of the running podcasts is 28 minutes, and then what's two more minutes on top of that? i felt like a machine. and one of the things that actually got me through it was knowing that i could write about it in this blog today!

that's pretty much all i have to say. friday is weigh in and this morning i was 120.2. not a loss but in my goal range which is fine by me. i did a little bit of pigging out last night at the euchre party.

only thursday

guess who forgot to bring her fish pills to work again? oh, me, that's who. for some reason the phrase "fish pills" really grosses me out. my roommate said, "why don't you just eat more fish?" well, there are several reasons: 1) bleh 2) pee-you 3) no. actually i do enjoy tuna fish sandwiches and a nice fillet on occasion but being a single eater (one who prepares food mostly for oneself) i don't feel the need to plan meals and include things like "meat" or "fish." it's too much pressure and i'll save that for when i have a family, thank you.

i did take a fish pill last night though. and i do have a spot of eczema on my elbow that likes to never go away and it's mostly gone already. not too shabby!

tonight i am going to the gym and then to a euchre party. nobody loves euchre more than me! here is today's menu:

breakfast:
oatmeal (3)
apple (1)
4/19

lunch:
zucchini (0)
lean cuisine (4)
8/19

snack/dinner:
toast (2)
mac and cheese (3)
13/19

and then party foods at the euchre party i'm sure. happy thursday everyone.

something smells fishy

i forgot to mention that yesterday i bought "salmon and fish oil capsules" which contain the good stuff from fish, those omega-3's everyone is raving on about, and other essential fatty acids. i probably don't eat enough fat in my regular diet so i'm hoping these will help. i also hear that these pills will give you better skin, nails, and hair. by "better" i mean healthier haha.

i took one last night with dinner but forgot to bring any to work today. you are supposed to take one thrice daily with meals. that's a lotta fish.

whoopee it's wednesday

last week i read in someone's blog about how they have a "last chance workout" like the contestants on the biggest loser. now i can't get it out of my head and all my workouts are last chance workouts. and why not? if i'm at the gym already, why not push it as hard as i can. it's not like i go everyday, so i might as well make the most of it.

last night i did 40 minutes on the elliptical, did free weights and sit-ups, then got back on the treadmill and jogged/walked for 1/2 hour. last chance. at the end i was pooped but felt strong and accomplished.

my moving to-do's are getting done! last night i went through some more "junk" drawers and cleared out make-ups, lotions, and other beauty supplies that are too old/never gonna get used. i threw out 1/2 a big green garbage bag full of stuff... crazy. if thre is one thing i hate, it's unused junk and clutter and right now is the perfect time to purge myself of everything i don't want/need.

here is today's menu:
breakfast:
chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)

moo it's monday

i ate a lot this weekend. A LOT. i went out for dinner friday and had bah me gai, a thai-style dish, and pizza later on. on saturday i had eggs and turkey bacon for breakfast, popcorn, those delicious candy nibs, chinese food, more popcorn, wine, and cheetos. yes, cheetos. on sunday morning i had leftover chinese food and pizza for breakfast. and a latte made from egg nog soymilk and espresso coffee. and chili for dinner too. yup. surprisingly i'm not up that much on the scale this morning... not even two pounds, so i'm not too worried. i eat very well during the week and i like to indulge on the weekend. work hard during the week, slack on the weekend.

on saturday afternoon i went to see 'we will rock you' the musical and it was alright. i wouldn't recommend it, but i wouldn't *not* recommend it either. if you are a musical connaisseur (like me) then you won't be that impressed. my mom gave my non-starting car a boost on saturday and luckily it started again yesterday and then this morning and i finally took it to canadian tire to have the new battery installed.

tonight is back to the gym. i am going to run on the treadmill and do weights. i should try the pool before my membership expires because they just switched it over to a saltwater pool. i got this online:

"Though the water in a saltwater pool is saline, it's actually nothing like swimming in the ocean. The salt concentration in the pool tops out at about 2800 to 4000 parts per million, compared to 50,000 parts per million in ocean water. Saltwater pools are less salty than tears (you usually can't even taste the salt) but the soft, luxurious feel of the water, not to mention freedom from the burning feeling of too much chlorine, is immediately noticeable."

OH BOY!

here is today's menu:

breakfast:
coffee (0)
chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
clementine (0.5)
1.5/19

snack:
oatmeal (2.5)
berries (0)
pumpkin (0)
4/19

lunch:
lean cuisine ravioli (5)
spinach leaves (0)
pear (1)
10/19

snack:
clementine (0.5)
10.5/19

dinner:
chicken obviously, probably potatoes as well

freezing friday

ok so it's freezing today. maybe that's why my car wouldn't start. on sunday it was having trouble starting, and i bought it to canadian tire because i knew it was the battery. they sold me a battery but "didn't have time to install it." GREAT. now i have a fresh battery in my living room, and a car on the street that won't start. i was going to bring it in this morning but not anymore.

the good news is last night at the gym i ran for 25 minutes on the treadmill without stopping, and including warmup/cool down walks was on for about 40 minutes. then i did some weight machines, sit-ups, free weights, and then got on the elliptical for another 20 minutes. i was sore afterwards, but it felt good.

i organized two of four giant tupperware bins. i found some ipod sticker/skins which i thought i had lost and funny pictures of my family. like my dad in the 70s in a speedo, haha. and my grandma in a leather jacket posing with brian mulroney. what in the world?

this should be a good weekend. tonight is pop with brains, an event that my boyfriend puts on at the rivoli on queen st.—there are five bands (his included) and five local artists (painters, jewelry designers, fashion designers, etc., and all the proceeds get donated to the centre for addiction and mental health. it's a really fun time (always!), and some of my friends and i always eat at the rivoli (menu)beforehand.

here is today's menu:
breakfast:
chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
1/2 banana (1)
raisins (.5)
2.5/19

snack:
bran flakes (1)
yogurt (3)
raisins (.5)
1/2 banana (1)
8/19

lunch:
lean cuisine (5)
13/19

dinner: out!

thursday already?

yep thursday already. i didn't do my "moving to-do" last night. i was just in a daze. my bf is a teacher and they had some sort of party for the kids at lunch. one of the student's fathers owns a portuguese chicken restaurant and brought so much chicken and potatoes and french fries, etc. pretty good party except there was so much chicken leftover and now i have 30 chicken legs and breasts in my fridge. oh, it's a lot of chicken alright. luckily i love chicken and i'm happy to have it because chicken is not cheap. plus, already cooked... bonus. we made chicken poutine last night with the potato balls and chicken of course, and i made chicken sandwiches for lunch, and maybe i'll have to have chicken soup for dinner tonight. i hope i don't start laying eggs or something.

this is my to-do list for today:
1) go shopping after work and be home at a reasonable time.
2) hit the gym
3) go through the closet - should have done this yesterday
3.5) eat chicken
4) there are four large tupperware bins under the basement stairs and i am going through them.
5) set up electricity in new apartment
6) eat chicken

today's menu:

breakfast:
bran flakes and soy milk (small amount 1)
chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
chicken, no i'm not joking (0.5)
2.5/19

lunch:
lean cuisine (5)
steamed butternut squash - i didn't eat this yesterday (1)
8.5/19

snacks:
1 rye cracker (.5)
chicken sandwich, bread (2), chicken 2 oz. (2)
13/19

dinner:
chicken soup of course.

ps. i was trying to google chicken images and came across THIS. at your own risk of course.

all about me

mrs. furious tagged me with this mememememe so here we go.

I give you money and send you into the grocery store to pick up 5 items. You can only pick one thing from the following departments.. what is it?

1. Produce: cauliflower - the things i do with this veg. even amaze me!
2. Bakery: sprouted grains bread. or some kind of bread with seeds.
3. Meat: ground turkey
4. Frozen: edamame - i actually typed out edememe first, hahaha get it?
5. Dairy: mozza cheese (since i drink soymilk)

Let's say we're heading out for a weekend getaway. You're only allowed to bring 3 articles of clothing with you. So, what's in your bag?

1. skinny jeans. oh, i love skinny jeans.
2. these hideous purple slippers i wear everywhere. i pack them when i go to my parent's house, even for the day. cold feet! they are "native indian style" too. how do you say that without being offensive? moccasins!
3. let's say a t-shirt because i don't want my upper half to be nude.

If I was to listen in on your conversations throughout the day, what 5 phrases or words would I be most likely to hear?

1. no problem. (i say this a lot at work.)
2. my little grey poupon... (i say this to my cat.)
3. drink with a capital D.
4. cutiest/sweetiepie (what i call my boyfriend - i know, gag me but i'm not stopping!)
5. in other news...

So, what 3 things do you find yourself doing every single day, and if you didn't get to do, you probably wouldn't be in the best mood?

1. talking to or seeing my boyfriend.
2. talking to my mom
3. exercising (this is the key to my stress-free and very sane life.)

We're talking a 3 hour block with nobody around. What 5 activities might we find you doing?

1. reading.
2. dancing around the house with an ipod, doing chores/personal stuff like plucking eyebrows.
3. trolling facebook (*shame*)
4. drawing
5. watching my vhs tapes of shows i taped during the week.

We are going to the zoo. But, it looks like it could start storming, so it'll have to be a quick visit. What 3 exhibits do we have to get to?

1. monkeys!
2. jungle cats.
3. bambi deers - do they have deer at the zoo? at the african lion safari they do!

You just scored tickets to the taping of any show that comes on t.v. of your choice. You can pick between 4, so what are you deciding between?

(like mrs. f. this doesn't really interest me but... i guess these would be neat)
1. conan o brian.
2. jay leno.
3. saturday night live.
4. martha stewart or a live cooking show.

You're hungry for ice cream. I'll give you a triple dipper ice cream cone. What 3 flavors can I pile on for ya?

1. peanut butter chocolate.
2. piece of cake - the baskin robbins by my house had this for one summer only and never again - jerks!
3. i guess cookie dough... although i am only interested in the dough.

Somebody stole your purse/wallet…in order to get it back, you have to name 5 things you know are inside to claim it. So, what's in there?

1. canadian tire money.
2. mysterious "pills" in one of those film canisters with a snap lid. it's tylenol and vitamins, really!
3. my jewish community centre discount card - no i am not jewish but it's where i belong!
4. books - usually more than one.
5. coupons... so many coupons. they are gifts from my mother and i like them.

You are at a job fair, and asked what areas you are interested in pursuing a career in. Let's pretend you have every talent and ability to be whatever you wanted, so what 4 careers would be fun for you?

1. fashion model.
2. editor - oh wait, that is my career.
3. private investigator.
4. airline stewardess. fun times.

If you could go back and talk to the old you, when you were in high school, and inform yourself of 4 things, what would you say?

1. whatever your problems are right now, they won't matter in a) one month b) one year c) five years. i can't even remember my high school problems and when i can i just laugh about them.
2. all things worthwhile take hard work and determination - nothing falls into your lap.
3. tanning is not a good idea - especially for girls with pale skin.
4. cookies from tim hortons have a lot of calories. stop eating them.

and i'm going to tag: sara cuz she seems like a really nice person and also... wheebles because she isn't afraid to say what she's thinking, and one more for luck: shirls just because i like her.

on the hunt wednesday

have you ever shopped for clothes, bought stuff you thought you liked, and then brought it home and decided you hated everything? or that it's just boring? well that happened to me. i had these two $20 cards at smart set and i had to use them between nov. 4 and the 14th. i went a few times during this period, but didn't really see anything i was that into. but then of course i had to use the coupons, so there was pressure to buy new stuff. but now i really don't like my new stuff. in fact, one might say, i hate it! so i'm going to return it today. hopefully they will still let me return the stuff because i used the coupons. or that the salesgirl won't notice and just give me a refund anyway.

last night i got the stuff i wanted done. i love takin' care of business. and elvis too. the junk drawer was pretty easy. i threw out most tickets (except for the best concerts like depeche mode), all crap, photos that were stuck together, old notes, glittery stars (don't ask), a bag full of googly eyes (again, don't ask), old keys, etc. the underwear drawer was easier. it felt good to throw my old bras into the can. at first i thought, maybe my sister would want them (some aren't old, only worn a few times, but the wrong (sigh) size), but then thought, who would want anyone else's old underwear? no one, that's who! and if you do... you're sick. sick! yah, i said it.

tonight my bf is coming over for a home-date so my order of moving business is to have a go-through-the-closest fashion show and get rid of things i won't/can't wear anymore.

veggies and dip (1)
chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
5/19

busy tuesday

my sickness yesterday took all my energy at work... and it feels like lately i have a lot of work business to take care of. only today do i finally have a moment to catch up on my blog reading. one of my favourite bloggers to read (don't stop believin') has cancelled her blog, i think, which is sad. so, mystery blog girl, if you are reading this, i say: come back!

last night i went to the gym (despite my sickness - yes i'm that hardcore) and it made me feel a LOT better. i just did 30 minutes on the elliptical and some light weights. i also washed and changed all the sheets on my bed, including the duvet cover and that white puffy sheet with the elastic that goes under the fitted sheet. i changed oliver's litterbox and took out all the trash (garbage day). i didn't bring up any boxes for packing because i realized this was not the best idea. i will just get them as i need them. so today, my to-do list after work is:

1) go through bedside table which is really two drawers of "junk." when i say junk, i mean junk! like old pedometers that came with mcdonald's salads when they first came out... they don't even work anymore! no keeping crap. i hate useless clutter.
2) go through underwear drawer and throw out a) all underwear that is old/gross/ashamed to be seen in during a hospital emergency, etc. b) all bras that do not fit and c) socks with holes or no matches d) old tights.

it's also my book club tonight and i want to hit the gym for some more light cardio. oh boy.

here is today's menu:
breakfast:
chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
1/2 banana (1)
2/19

snack:
oatmeal (3)
1/2 banana (1)
6/19

lunch:
tortilla wrap (4)
cheddar cheese (2)
spinach (0)
red and green peppers (0)
12/19

dinner: not sure, as per usual.

sicko

it's monday and i'm really sick today. but since i took friday off, i couldn't stay home today... well, i could have, but a four-day weekend, come on. i'm trying to suck it up and get on with my day. thankfully my office supplies kleenex brand facial tissues. :o)

my exciting surprise date on friday was a trip to...

MEDIEVAL TIMES dinner theatre and jousting tournament. i had never been and always wanted to go. it was a pretty good time, i must say!

i am moving in less than three weeks, and i haven't done any packing yet. i think from today until moving day, i should make a little "to-do" list everyday - so i'm not overwhelmed when the big day comes.

today:
1) pick up all the dirty clothes off bedroom floor - put them in laundry basket
2) wash and change sheets
3) bring up cardboard boxes from storage room (luckily i kept these from my last move!)

it may not seem like a lot, but i'm sick and i have plans with a friend after work. so it goes!

here is today's menu:

breakfast:
chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
oatmeal (2)
berries (0)
3/19

lunch:
tortilla wrap (4)
30g cheddar cheese (2)
spinach (0)
red and green peppers (0)
tomato, chopped (0)
9/19

snacks:
baby carrots and cauliflower (0)
ff sour cream dip (1)
clementine (0.5)
10.5/19

dinner: not too sure.

friday sick day

i am home sick today. i went to sleep last night around 10:30 (very early for me) and when i woke up at 7 i could tell i was not feeling better. so i just snoozed until noon and am feeling much MUCH better. still a bit woozy, but less lethargic i guess. sleep really is a great medicine.

i have to feel better, because my bf is taking me somewhere mysterious tonight. all i know is that it's expensive, and that i can't have any clues because i'd guess it right away. i wonder what it could be!? i'm very intrigued anyway.

my new haircut looks great. AND here is another random story: in the aveda school salon i was sitting on the couch, waiting for my hairdresser/student and i see these two men looking at me and whispering. they obviously worked there, and i recognized one as being an educator (from the last time i was there), so i figured that he was just telling a student that i was the next client or something. then the educator asks me to sit down and says, "what is your schedule like on this day (i forget when) in the future?" it was at least two weeks away and i thought they wanted to reschedule my appointment for that time (not cool!). anyway, they wanted me (ME!!!) to be a aveda hair fashion model in a show and walk down a runway. hahaha! i couldn't, because it would be in a morning and i have a day job, but still... what a compliment! i might change my mind actually. i said no because the location was an hour away... it's just so bizarre. i would get a free cut and colour out of the deal too.

no menu today. i'm going to have a bath and walk to the library. two of my favourite things to do. :o)

thursday BLEH

today i feel like crap. i was up in the night with nightmares about big moths flying into my hair. what in the world? i think i'm sick. it's my throat or something. but i am still at work. why? because i am hardcore! actually because i am getting my hair cut right after work today at the aveda school salon and it's really close to my office. usually in the morning i don't mind getting out of bed at all, but today... i could have kept snoozing in a major major way.

last night i did day two of week seven of the running podcasts, which is 25 minutes nonstop running. next week is 28 minutes, and the week after is 30, which i don't think should be a problem. what's five more measley little minutes? while i was running i hit a stoplight, and because i don't want to stop and lose momentum, i find a concrete step and go up and down, up and down. well, i was doing that and this asian man starts giving me the thumbs up and says, "good - active! - slim physique!" while i usually like to be recognized for the effort i'm making to keep a slim physique, not on a busy street corner! everyone else was cracking up. i was too actually, haha. he asked if i was going to run 10 miles... hahaha ya buddy, 10 miles.

anyhoo, the scale showed me up today but i didn't eat dinner until 9pm last night, and i had leftover chicken panang, which is basically peanuts ground up into a delicious coconut milk peanut sauce of wonder. not points friendly i'm sure.

here is today's menu:

breakfast:
chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
1/2 banana (1)
2/19

snack:
oatmeal (2.5)
1/2 banana (1)
20g raisins (1)
6.5

lunch:
mac and cheese (3)
2 slices bread (4)
13.5

dinner:
leftover curry cauliflower soup (?)

tgiw

i'm happy it's wednesday because the week is almost half over. yesterday one of my friends sent me this little gem about tuesday. oh, it's funny because it's true, like so maybe things.

i need to admit that i have an addiction to american apparel. i love simple clothes that fit well, are made of cotton and spandex, and don't have any slogans or writing on them. it's genious! true, some of the clothes may seem expensive, but they are all made in a sweatshop-free-factory in downtown LA and that's pretty cool. i love the leggings and the dresses. i also have a bathing suit from aa. groovy!

this morning i woke up early and made chocolate chip banana bran muffins. only, i like to add a bit of vanilla, and today i decided to use 1/2 semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1/2 white chocolate chips. oh boy! i had one for breakfast (who can resist warm, fresh-baked goods! no one, that's who!) and it was very tasty and the two-colour chips looked very appealing.

yesterday in the grocery store i FINALLY found no-sugar-added pudding cups. i avoided pudding cups in the past because a) i could really take it or leave it—pudding is good but not that special and b) the ones with sugar are sugar laden and 2 points a.k.a not worth it. but the no-sugar added ones are only 1 point and have 0g of sugar. i don't really "get" how they taste so delicious. i got vanilla even though i spent a few minutes debating between that and butterscotch. i couldn't find them before because they are not kept with the regular pudding cups, they are kept with the dairy in the cold section. what in the world?

this week has been good and on plan so far. i am still trying to eat only when hungry and it's going pretty well. i went to the gym last night before meeting up with a friend for some drinks/gossip. who wants one?

here is today's menu:

chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
oatmeal with pumpkin (3)
chefboyardee ravoli microwave cup (4)
salad with dressing (1)

semi-total (9)
i have some leftover panang thai so perhaps for dinner i'll steam some rice and dump it on. the word "dump" definitely makes it sound less appetizing but trust me, it's good.

tuesday

i love exercise. i love everything about it. i love cardio. i love lifting weights. i love running when my knees don't hurt (they are starting not to!). i love sweating. i love feeling "the burn." i love endorphins. i love stretching. i love feeling strong. my point is: exercise is the BEST. ya, it's hard at first, but when you get into the swing of it, and make it a priority, you'll love it too. what's not to love. people who exercise are happier, more calm, have more regular eating habits and sleeping patterns, are probably less prone to physical injury, have better endurance... the list goes on and on.

last night i went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the ellptical and then weights. i wanted to jump on the treadmill and do a running podcast since i still hadn't gotten all my energy out, but they were all occupied. at least five of them were being repaired. boo-urns. at first i started waiting for one, but then i felt ants in my pants and figured, i'll just go outside, i like it way better anyway. it was great - 25 minutes no stopping. i mapped the run and including warm up and cool down walks it was 2.91 miles. not bad!

today's menu:
breakfast:
oatmeal (3)
3/19

lunch:
salad with dressing (1)
tomato (0)
cheese (2)
bread (4)
10/19

snacks:
rye crackers (1)
pudding cup (1)
12/19

dinner: not sure, but probabaly veggie heavy with chicken or a hamburger. or soup. i don't know.

mourning monday

not really "mourning" anything except the weekend. i bought my cat oliver a "luxury cat scratching post and stand" thing and he broke off the fluffy ball on the elastic string in less than an hour. GREAT. he's very naughty but cute so he gets away with everything.

the chocolate peppermint soymilk i posted in friday's entry is out of this world. it's not that low in calories, but still, unbelievably tasty. i made lattes with it on sunday morning. it was christmas bliss.

on saturday i finished week six of the running podcasts, which is 25 minutes running, without stopping. i couldn't believe that i could do it. i was trying to boost myself up by telling myself i could do it, but was still having doubts. if you think you can't do something you probably won't be able to. week seven is three sessions of running 25 minutes. week eight is three sessions of 28 minutes, and the final week is three sessions of 30 minutes. then i will run around the world.

on that note, here is the menu for this rainy monday.

breakfast:
chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
oatmeal with berries (2)
3/19

lunch:
obscene amount of fresh greens (0)
fat free caesar dressing (1)
lean cuisine (5)
9/19

snack:
slice of mulitgrain bread (2)
11/19

dinner: it's a mystery!

fabulous friday

between last night and this morning i really tcb. (takin' care of business.) after work i couldn't go home because my landlord was showing the apartment (again!) so i went to the mall to try on my new coat in a size smaller. the smallest size was really too small so i'm happy with the one i have. i also got new winter boots. they are great. they come almost to the knee and have a small heel, so they are comfortable and stylish. and they zip up over my skinny jeans and make me look like a somebody. my winter outerwear wardrobe is complete!

after the mall i returned some library books and hit up the gym, where i used the elliptical, did weights, and did day two week six of the running podcasts. hardcore! then i went home, started taping grey's anatomy, put some brussel sprouts in the oven, and walked to shoppers drug mart to buy some hair dye. then i came home, ate dinner (with leftover shepherd's pie) while watching the biggest loser i had taped previously, did two loads of laundry, sprayed my leather (fall) coat with protective spray, and crashed. then this morning i did another load of laundry and dyed my hair. (my hair is medium brown and i dye it dark brown.)

guess what i found in dominion yesterday...

this:

and this:

Hungry Girl is always talking about them. you can find nutritional info here. i love making lattes at home with soymilk because it gives them a nutty flavour - i can't wait to try it with these.

friday is weigh in day and this week i lost two pounds, so am still in my comfort zone.

today's menu:
breakfast:
chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
1/19

snack:
1/2 cup oatmeal (3)
1/3 cup pumpkin (0)
1 T slivered almonds (1)
5/19

lunch:
lean cuisine (5)
10/19

snack:
raisins (2)
12/19

dinner: who knows.

thursday, good day

last night for dinner i had shepherd's pie (pc blue menu) and then tortilla rounds with melted tostitos cheese dip, so don't worry, i obviously ate all my points. today i could have brought some leftover pie to work for lunch, but decided that i wanted it for dinner instead. oh boy, how exciting. i didn't wear my new jacket, even though it is freezing outside. i'm just not sure i got the right size, so i'm going to go back and try on all the options before i cut the tags off. i always do this!

random: i get the weirdest spam in my email inbox at work. example subject headings include, "Don't be afraid to take off your pants in her bedroom," "You will work wonders in bed with your new long and stiff magic love stick," and my personal favourite, "The most defiant fillies will strive for riding your new big Italian stallion." defiant fillies? somebody is obviously thinking hard to come up with this stuff... it's better than j. peterman's catalogue.

today is going to be an active annie day. 1) i am going to complete day 2 week 6 of the couch to 5k program, either at lunch or after work at the 2) gym, where i will pump it up big time. i am not allowed to go home until 7pm anyway, because my landlord is showing the apartment to prospective tenants.

trying something new update

1) i got a new coat at lunch, but no boots. it's this coat but cream coloured.

the collar is really nice. it goes up high - halfway up my face. so no need for a scarf and i can also look shifty and incognito like a p.i.

2) i am not hungry. seriously. i ate a chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1) for breakfast and around 12:30 ate oatmeal with a bit of milk and 1/2 cup berries. (3) that is 4 points total people! but i'm just not hungry. i'm drinking tea right now and it's lovely. the thought of eating makes me want to, but after thinking about it... i'm just not hungry. ok now i had 2 pieces of toast - add on 2 more points. but still 6 points is not that much.

will wonders never cease!?

trying something new

last night for dinner i had a chicken tikka masala boxty. yum yum. it was an irish potato pancake wrapped around some sort of chicken tikka mush. medium spicy but not spicy enough! it came with a salad. oh yummy.

the party was also fun. a lot of my friends came and we laughed it up. also i won a door prize. a "denver hayes" leather jacket from mark's work warehouse. oh boy. men's size large haha. i wore it home because it was freezing. but i am hoping that it can be exchanged or something.

today i'm going shopping at lunch because i don't have a winter coat. i didn't get one last year because i couldn't find one i liked. i was wearing this duffel coat i had—from high school! then, one night at a bar, it was stolen from me (my keys were in the pocket too.) left in its place was a cheap, gross, but similar mariposa coat. not the same! so my point is i don't have a coat - not even one, and i'm freezing. i also need winter boots. and i hate shopping. i have shoppers rage.

so i'm trying something new food wise today, at work. i brought a bunch of stuff to eat. pretty much what i normally would eat. but instead of having this for breakfast and that for lunch and this for a snack at this exact time, im going to eat whatever i want when i'm hungry. and if i'm not hungry, i'm not going to eat it.

here is what i brought:

chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
oatmeal (2-3)
mixed berries (1)
chili (3)
2 slices body wise bread (2)
10/19

i also have a banana (2)
yogurt (1)

so far i've eaten the muffin. i'm just not feeling that hungry today, although i'll have to eat something before shopping. enraged shoppers should never go shopping hungry. it is a bad combo.

tuesday

this morning i completed day one of week six of the couch to 5k running podcasts. it's 5 min warm up walk, 5 min run, 3 min walk, 8 min run, 3 min walk, 5 min run, and 5 min cool down walk. easier than running 20 minutes non-stop but i guess the point is to get used to the activity getting longer and longer.

for breakfast i made an oatmeal pumpkin pancake. it was pretty good but didn't hold together as a pancake.

i used:
1/2 cup oats (2.5 points)
1/2 cup pumpkin (0 points)
3/4 t vanilla
1/4 t baking powder
2 t splenda brown sugar
2 T egg whites (0.5 points i think)

yum yum. in this case i liked the pumpkin. i am going to the giller light awards tonight and out for dinner first so i am trying to eat low point for breakfast and lunch. sort of.

so popular, yes it's true

i was tagged by the awesome blogtress (yes i just made up that word) Randi for this blogging tag thingamabob so here is mine:

The Rules:
1-Link to your tagger and post these rules on your blog.
2-Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, some random, some weird.
3-Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blogs.
4- Let them know they are TAGGED by leaving a comment on their blog.

here are my random, weird, hopefully interesting facts:
1. i edit children's books for a living.
2. i was a bit of a child-artist prodigy. I used to paint with watercolour and oil paint and ink and everything, but stopped when I was about 14. maybe I was just sick of it?
3. i am a huge nerd at heart and LOVE reading. every year growing up my local library would have contests to see who could read the most books over the summer and I always won by a long shot.
4. i am moving out on my own for the first time ever (no roomies) in five short weeks. alone, except for my cat, oliver.
5. i love pickles and have been known to eat an entire jar of delicious garlic flavour pickles in one sitting. a mini jar i guess, but still a jar!
6. i hardly ever watch tv shows during their regularly scheduled time. even if i'm home, i like to tape them and save them for moments when i can really just chill out and relax (and watch things i'm looking forward to.) and i get to fastforward through commercials.
7. i hope this doesn't sound too strange but i have found the secret to happy, stress-free living and here it is: being happy with who you are and what you have right now, and without jealousy or resentment, wishing true happiness for those around you. karma baby!

on friday night i made the most delicious turkey meatballs.

ingredients:
1 package ground turkey - roughly 500g
2 oz. breadcrumbs
2 oz. parmesan cheese
1 egg, beaten
chopped onion, to taste

instructions:
pre-heat oven to 350°F. line baking sheet with foil and scoop out balls (roll with hands) and place on the sheet. bake for 20-30 minutes depending on how brown you like the outside. amazing!

i used a lot of onion in big chops because i love onion. i can imagine you can add various spices/seasonings to change up the flavour as well. yum yum.

interesting fact

i read in my chatelaine this month that less than 24% of Canadian women over the age of 12 are active.

can you believe it!???

guess what?

Glitter Text custom comment codes for MySpace, Hi5, Friendster and more - ImageChef.com

or at least i think i did. what is it? day 3 of week 5 of the couch to 5k running program a.k.a. running for 20 minutes without stopping. my ipod cut out (even after charging to full battery yesterday) after about 17 minutes of running so i had to guess the last three. maybe i over-estimated ha! i just took it slow and steady and it was allllllllllllright! by the end i thought my knees might snap but i still made it. hopefully that will get better after time.

friday=weigh-in. last week 122.8 and this week 122.4. great!

this weekend is going to be fun. tonight i'm going RELAX and watch "knocked up," and tomorrow i am going to the university of toronto, mississauga campus, to see my sister in a production of david copperfield. she has a leading role and i can't wait! and then later it's back to the city for an engagement party.

here i am, rocking like a hurricane

i mean, happy halloween!

this morning i tried day three, week five of the running podcasts and failed miserably. it is five minutes warm up walk, 20 minutes running, and five minutes cool down walk. i could only run for about 12 minutes before my knees felt like they were going to snap in half. what a BUMMER! this could be because i only got about 6 hours of sleep last night. or it could be too much for my body to handle. whatever it is, i am not impressed. i will try again on friday morning after a good night's sleep.

in other news, my cookies are a great success. i brought some to a party last night and people liked them. my bf picked some up before school today and hopefully the kids like them! and i brought some to work today and my coworkers are gobbling them down like thanksgiving turkeys. gobble gobble. i should have brought more. i can, because there are still about 30-40 left. that isn't too bad at all.

here is today's menu:
breakfast:
chocolate chip banana bran muffin (1)
tea (0)
coffee (0)
oatmeal (2)

this isn't a lot of food points-wise, but it will keep me full and i am going to a party tonight and plan on indulging in wine and festive treat or two.

halloween cookies

i decorated the cookies last night. it took me two hours, from 10-12:30pm. ay ay ay! i decided not to ice any and just stick with the chocolate vampire design, because i have WAY too many candy corns.

and thus, without further ado, is how to make vampire cookies. (in twenty-three easy steps.)

step one: combine sugar and butter.

step two: beat it up.

step three: mix dry ingredients.

step four: take a picture of sergeant meowenstein looking so cute.

step five: mix dry and wet ingredients. eggs and vanilla were already added to the butter/sugar mix.

step six: eat some raw dough. even though your mom told you repeatedly as a kid not to eat raw cookie dough because of the raw eggs, you now know it was all a lie because she's eating some too.

step seven: make big balls of dough and wrap them.

step eight: refridgerate!

step nine: roll it out.

step ten: use a wine glass for perfect circles and put on cookie sheet.

step eleven: smell them. mmmmmm.

step twelve: roll out more and more dough because you made five times the amount and it's gonna take awhile.

step thirteen: stack them.

step fourteen: put them in a giant shoebox lined with wax paper for transporting home. what you see here is the second layer.

step fifteen: on your trusty scale, weigh some chocolate chips.

step sixteen: put chips in a bowl over a pot with water.

step seventeen: add oil. oily chocolate chips look good.

step eighteen: organize your decorations.

step nineteen: continue to melt chocolate.

step twenty: begin to decorate.

step twenty-one: vampire army! these should be placed in the freezer for 10 minutes to harden and set.

step twenty-two: try and find containers and room in the fridge for more than two hundred vampire cookies.

step twenty-three: collapse.

severe candy corn shortage

well. i can't find candy corn anywhere in this city. yesterday in the burbs i went to the bulk barn, expecting to find a giant tub of it ready for the scooping and they didn't have any. SOLD OUT. loblaws at lunch today didn't have any either. i am going to try the dominion by my office after work today because they have a pretty solid bulk section.

i have decided to make 1/2 vampire cookies and ice the other half. just for kicks. i forgot my camera USB cord so my baking photos will have to wait until tomorrow.

until then, i got this neat cereal info in my inbox this morning.

how to choose healthy cereals:

1) Remember the "Rule of Fives": Choose cereals with at least 5 grams of fiber per serving, and less than 5 grams of sugar.
2) Look for each serving to contain at least 3 grams of protein.
3) Read the ingredients list. The top ingredients should be "whole wheat", or "wheat bran"--not just "wheat". These whole grains are naturally low in fat, and high in fiber.
4) Avoid cereals that list hydrogenated oils, artificial dyes or colors, and chemical preservatives as ingredients--these have no place in a healthy diet!

manic monday

i didn't have the best weekend, eating wise, but it's a new week. friday night my boyfriend and i ordered pizza. i wanted him to order a medium "philly cheese steak" with whole wheat crust, and a side order of this chicken nuggets shaped like dinosaurs. when the pizza comes it is a large philly cheese steak pizza, an order of the nuggets, AND a medium cheese pizza, because "it was only $3 more." i actually didn't mind because having two kinds of pizza is more fun and plain cheese is lower in points. but i digress, i ate too much pizza.

saturday wasn't *too* bad actually. we went for a nice walk in kensington to pick up some last minute touches for the halloween costumes, and then i made a delicious baked pasta for dinner. mmmmm. just thinking about it makes me drool. the parties were fun - we went to goin steady (a 50s and 60s rock n roll dance party) and then to a house party.

yesterday i drove to the burbs and my mom and i proceeded to bake a thousand cookies. thanks again to mrs. furious for the recipe. i took some pics of our extreme baking and will post them a bit later.

this morning i completed day two of week five of the couch to 5k running podcasts. it is a five minute warm up walk, then run eight minutes, walk five, run eight and walk five for the cool down. my ipod cut out about 10 minutes before the end so it was all an estimation. it is my opinion that ipods are overpriced and stupid. yes, i own one and it does work but the battery life is NOT GOOD. i also have a sony sport arm band mp3 player too (i bought it on ebay) but i couldn't figure out how to load songs on it. it only works with PCs, and all my songs are on my MAC at work. i thought i loaded songs on it, but then i tried it out at the gym and the only song that would play was the one it came with. good times. so i'll figure it out... someday!

here is today's menu:

breakfast:
banana bread (6)
(i'm actually guessing here but i did eat a fair amount of this... )
6/19

lunch:
Primo roast chicken and noodle soup, 1 can (4)
2 slices sprouted grains toast (2)
12/19

dinner:
1/2 spaghetti squash (1-2)
leftover pasta, 1 cup (4)
chicken breast (2)
20/19

and i'm going to decorate cookies tonight so i'll save all my activity points for the cookie monster. is he eating vegetables? what in the world!?

what kind of cookie are you?

i bet you can't tell me

that you don't want this omelet pan for one.

and all the other cute little eggies.

happy friday

hello everyone. i am in the best mood today! why? because it's friday! and because my office is going out for lunch today (and paying) to this place called "the sultan's tent." i have never been there but always wanted to try it out.

last night after work i rode my bike to kensington market and bought courtney love and kurt cobain wigs from exile. then i went home, made eggs and toast for dinner, did laundry including my stinky new value village purchases, went to the gym, came home and baked those delicious chocolate chip banana bran muffins, sewed a collar onto my costume, watched the biggest loser that i taped from tuesday, and went to bed. i love halloween!

here are some of my costumes from previous years:

last year, i was raggedy anne:

the year before that, i was this scary corpse bride:

and the year before that, this enchanted princess:

this morning was weigh-in and i gained 1.2 this week, which is fine by me, because 122.8 is a very comfortable number between 120-125 (my comfort zone.) this morning i also did day one of week five of the couch to 5k running podcasts. alright!

Thursday, October 25, 2007

uh oh

i can tell it's going to be one of those days already... what kind of day? a hungry day! how do i know? because i'm still hungry!
i think running more is turning me into a hungrier person. i hate being hungry. actually i love being hungry, if food is prepared and in sight and ready to eat and smelling good. i hate waiting to eat when i'm hungry... it turns me into a pinchy crab.

today at lunch i'm going to ride my bike to value village and look for halloween costumes for my bf and me. we are going as kurt cobain and courtney love. it should be really funny if i can pull it together. why do i always wait until the last minute!

this morning's ride to work was chilly! there aren't many riding days left unless i break out the winter gear that i don't have. i think i'd rather invest in some outdoor winter running gear. the thought of the treadmill all winter long is so boring.

next week i'm going to make these for halloween. aren't they so adorable? i think i might sub in a regular sugar cookie recipe though. do you think that would affect the toppings at all? i hope they turn out well... my baking tends to go either way. a few weeks ago i tried baking a can of pumpkin with cake batter and it tasted like poo. pumpkin poo. my bf ate one and his review was, "gross." yep, gross!

here is today's menu:

breakfast:
oatmeal (2)
2/19

snack:
1/2 cup cheerios (1)
yogurt(1)
4/19

lunch:
2 slices bodywise wheat bread (2)
1/2 can tuna with fat free miracle whip (2)
lipton cup of soup (1)
9/19

snack:
pear (1)
10/19
maybe grapes too (1)
ok and rye crackers
12/19

dinner:
not sure, but i'm thinking about pasta, or i have 1/2 spaghetti squash to use.
nope i changed my mind to breakfast pour dinner!
1 egg + 2 whites, scrambled (3)
2 slices turkey bacon (2)
2 slices sprouted grains bread (2)
19/19

and after the gym tonight i'll enjoy some popcorn or cookies (my mom's homemade. i still have 2 left which i a proud of since she only gave me a small ziplock bag of them THREE weeks ago!)

vestday

did you know that wednesday is also vestday?

from wikipedia:

"An English language idiom for Wednesday is "hump day", a reference to making it through to the middle of the work week as getting "over the hump". It is also informally referred to as "the peak of the week". Another popular tradition in the United States is to wear a sweater vest on this mid-week business day. This has led Wednesday to be referred to as Vestday."

i am not wearing a vest but i wish i was. i only have one vest and it's too big so i can't wear it.

today i brought my workout clothes to work and i am going for a run AT LUNCH. yes, you heard it right here. and why not? i get an hour and this podcast only takes 32 minutes total. i don't want my progress to slack because i want to run a 5k soon, possibly before the end of the year. this won't happen if i'm excuses ellen all the time.

here is today's menu:
breakfast:
oatmeal (2)
yogurt (1)
3/19

pre-run:
banana (2)
5/19

lunch:
pc blue menu vegetable lasagna (6)
11/19

snack if i'm hungry
3 rye crackers (1)
12/19

dinner: mystery as per usual.

fun post

every year at work i get this catalogue with hideous items in it. well, every year being the two that i've worked here.

here are some doozies. get your holiday shop on!

ho ho holiday shoes.

maybe this animal print santa sweater is more your fancy.

perhaps you and your husband would like to wear matching sweaters. gag!

this is listed as "glamorous party sweater.

that's all for today, thankfully!

rainy tuesday

my back is killing me today. it was killing me yesterday as well. last night i took a robaxasol or whatever it's called and it made me really nauseated. then i looked at the bottle and saw that the pills were expired. yikes. i have had many bad experiences with expired pills, so one would think i would check the bottle each time, but no. i don't like taking medicine if i can avoid it, so things always expire before i can use them.

i told myself last night i could have two cookies (mom's homemade) in bed if i got up early and went for a run. well, i got up early, but it was pouring rain. some people are into running in the rain, but not me, especially not first thing in the morning. so instead i made coffee and had a bath and drank the coffee in said bath while reading. nice one!

it's supposed to clear up later so hopefully i can run tonight after work. the scale is showing me up a little bit and i know why. it's classic self-sabotage. i'm doing well so what's a little bite here and there. today i'm going to be religious about points. no extra bites! tonight the bf's band is playing on king west. woohoo!

today's menu:

breakfast:
oatmeal (2)
2/19

snack:
40g raisins (2)
4/19

lunch:
chunky beef soup (4)
2 slices bodywise bread (1)
9/19

snack:

manic monday

this morning i turned off my alarm and decided to shut my eyes for one little second. the next thing i knew it was 8:30 ahhhhhh! it's a beautiful day here in toronto. warm and sunny and perfect for biking to work. my back is killing me though. i need some robaxacet or something!

yesterday i went to costco with my mom and it was a dream come true. giant boxes of fibresource granola bars, smartpop popcorn bags, all-bran bars, equal sweeteners... i will never have to go shopping again. i also got two spaghetti squashes which i am pretty excited about. i will eat 1/2 of one tonight.

on saturday i completed day two of week four of the running podcasts. it wasn't so bad except my pants kept falling off (i'm not complaining), i saw a gross dead squirrel on the sidewalk, and i was having extreme stomach discomfort with an emergency at the end! not fun. it is looking like a busy week ahead for me so i'm going to try at do the final run of this week tonight at the gym. maybe outside, post-gym... the treadmill is so boring!

here is today's menu:

breakfast:
2.5 slices of sprouted grains bread (2.5)
2.5/19

lunch:
leany cuisiney (5)
7.5/19

either mid-morning or afternoon snack:

biggest loser

so i watched my tape of the biggest loser last night, and this is what i have to say:

i like the trainers. bob, kim, and that other one with the big arm muscles.

and it seems like the contestants like the trainers too. except, it seems like kim always has trouble with her team. this week she was yelling at the cowboy, using the "f-word"... and he stormed off. is this for real? is it because she has trouble motivating her team? they win all of the challenges! i don't know. it just bothered me. i hate to see people fighting on tv. maybe i'm too sensitive.

friday whoopahhhh!

happy friday everyone. today's weigh in is a loss of 1.2 pounds - from 122.8 to 121.6. hooray! 120-125 is my comfort zone but of course I prefer a lower number.

yesterday i got my new running shoes and they are awesome! i went to the gym last night and had a hardcore workout. 30 mins on the elliptical, weight machines, a running podcast and situps. the week four running podcast is a lot tougher than week three! it's 5-min. warm up walk, 3 minutes running, 90 seconds walking, 5 minutes running, 2.5 minutes walking, (repeat the running and walking) and 5-min. cool down walk. that's 16 minutes of total running. it sucks that i had to do it on the treadmill but i still did it and am feeling really proud of myself. 5k here i come! my legs were sooooo sore after.

i'm so happy it's the weekend, almost. tonight i'm going to see she wants revenge at the opera house. rock dance party!

here is today's menu:

breakfast:
latte with 1/2 cup light silk soy and espresso
oatmeal pancakes (1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup egg whites, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp splenda brown sugar)

lunch:
chef boyardee microwave cup
2 slices ww bread
cheese string
apple

dinner: yet to be determined but it's going to include a big fat glass of red wine!

edit

my shoes came!

stupid tv

here is a more real post:

i always tape (instead of watch) the tv shows that are on in the evenings during prime time. this is for several reasons:

1) i am busy, with stuff to do, like go to the gym and read books, etc.
2) i can't stand just sitting through and watching commercials.
3) i like to fastforward through commercials on a tape.
4) i like to watch tv shows when i feel like it, at my own convenience.

so i taped gossip girl and biggest loser on tues. but now because i read too many blogs i already know who got kicked off. stupid tv! i only have myself to blame really.

so apparently usps is good for my shoes' entire journey and...

come on shoes, get here already.

i am waiting patiently for my shoes. since they were sent usps, i only have a number that tracks the shoes until they leave the united states. this was at the chicago airport on october 14. that was a few days ago, so hurry up shoes! i was going to run again this morning but couldn't bring myself to get out of bed. oh boy. i went to the gym last night and rode my bike to work, so that's probably enough activity so long as i step it up tomorrow.

i got new batteries for my scale yesterday. i went to this battery store in the underground scotia plaza and they tried to sell me batteries for $24.99 each! (i needed two.) not having that. after work i rode to the source by circuit city where they were only $6.99 each. very strange price difference. i really like the source by circuit city. at first i wasn't into it, because i thought it would be just another radio shack, but the prices are very reasonable and the sales people have always been really helpful to me.

last night at my book club i was all pumped to have a pint of amsterdam framboise beer—but they took if off tap! thanks jerks! they replaced it with pumpkin ale, which i had. it was alright. i seem to be on a mission to want to really like pumpkin, even though i only sort of do. like pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin pie, pumpkin oatmeal pancakes, pumpkin ale... i think it's because i know how good for you pumpkin is. there are many foods—like green beans for example—which i used to hate but now love because i know how good they are for me.

tonight i have a stay at home date which is nice. here is today's menu up until dinnertime.

breakfast:
oatmeal with a bit of milk and strawberries (3)
3/19

lunch:
microwave meal of chili (3)
leftover greenie beanies (0)
2 slices ww bread (1)
7/19

i have grapes and a pear hanging around work, but chili is so filling i don't think i'll be hungry. ok back to work. :o)

fit and fab

i don't have batteries yet for my scale, but that's ok. i might go after work to a computer store. maybe. i brought the old batteries in my purse so i wouldn't even have to attempt to sound like i know what i'm talking about. i can just put them on the counter, and point and grunt.

the food at the gala last night was really good. and one of our authors won. there were little flintstones lamb thingies on mashed potatoes, french fry wedges with beef and duck, covered in your choice of cheese curds, blue cheese, or fresh parm, then drizzled with gravy. it sounds like a lot but everything was very mini. there were also little appetizers going around like thai spring rolls, and brie cheese things, and tied veggies with orange dip, and more. yum yum. the deserts were also delicious - a tree of strawberries dipped in white and milk chocolate, little cheesecakes, etc.

in other news, last week i went to the running room and got fitted for new running shoes. apparently i have a rolling left foot or something like that. at one of my old jobs this client traded brand new nikes for our services, so i had a pair of these (really ugly) nikes, but i couldn't keep wearing them because the arch on the left foot was really hurting me! it seems i need shoes like this for my rolling foot, but softer, more comfortable ones. in the end i chose mizuno wave inspire 3's. and then i bought them on ebay because they were $159.99 in the store and that is totally obscene. Here are they if anyone wants to look at them. They haven't come in the mail yet. I'm impatient but don't expect them to come until next week.

i was going to get up early and go to the gym but last night i put the flannel duvet cover on my duvet and just couldn't get out of bed until the last second this morning. snooze! i am hoping to go tonight after work but i'll have to make the most of my time since i also have a book club meeting. have a nice day everyone!

moo it's monday

it's already 4pm and i've only now got a chance to log into blogger. busy day!

i had a pretty good weekend... my only real downfall was visiting my parents last night and watching my mom bake her famous chocolate chip cookies, eating (sneaking) dough, eating (ok, and sneaking) warm gooey cookies, taking more cookies back to my own house, eating more, etc. i brought most of them to work today and they were a big hit. the rest i put in the freezer.

this morning i got on the scale and it said 122.0 at first. this would be a 0.8 drop since friday. me losing weight on the weekends = never happens. so i got off the scale, looked underneath to see if maybe dust bunnies were creating some sort of scale fantasy weight, and got back on. this time it said "Lo." yes, thank you, i'd like it if the scale just confirmed that i was at a "Lo" weight, but i think it means low battery! it was quite a shock to realize how quickly i planned out where i could get new batteries for this scale (at a computer store or something). it goes to show that i don't want to be without that scale for even one day. sure, there may be days where i choose not to get on, but i always want to have that option! i'll be without tomorrow morning but that's alright. one day, i can handle. i mean, i'm not a crazy obsessive... or anything.

this morning i did run four of week three of the couch to 5k training podcasts. technically, i should have been doing week four, but i haven't downloaded it yet and there really isn't any harm in staying at this level until tuesday!

here is today's menu:

1/2 banana (1)
3/19

deli meat (1)
whole wheat baguette (2)
