always the way, always the way

so get this:

close to the beginning of january i went to a wedding. it was about an hour's drive so my bf and i decided to stay in a hotel in town. really small town... kind of dingy, you get the gist. anyhoo, before the wedding i was charging the battery to my digital camera and the only available outlet was behind one of the bedside tables. OF COURSE i forgot it in the hotel room, d'oh. i phoned the hotel to ask if they found it and they told me to phone back when the main maid was working because only she had access to the lost and found box. it is locked with a key. ooooh. so i did and lo and behold, they did find the charger. amazing! i ask her, "can someone at the hotel please mail it back to me?" she said, "no problem" and i thought, great. couldn't get any easier than this. except that was over a month ago and my charger still didn't arrive. i called the hotel after about 3 1/2 weeks to ask if they mailed it, what's up, gimme the scoop, and they told me (with a giggle) that the mail is REALLY slow in their slow poky town and that it's just moving along. i find this a little hard to believe... canada post is canada post. it's not moving by a postman on horseback, is it?

so i continue to wait and wait and wait and finally decided, enough is enough! they probably threw it in the garbage and laughed all the way to the 711. so i bought one on ebay. i couldn't buy the canon exact brand because it was $80 and that's ridiculous, so i bought a general no name charger that works with my camera for $10 and $5 shipping. great. except the VERY DAY I BUY IT WHAT COMES IN THE MAIL? the charger!!! what in the world? isn't that always the way? the very day! it turns out they got one letter of my postal code wrong and that's why it took so long. i guess the mail isn't slow in that town but the staff at the howard johnson are... zing! i'm more bemused by the whole ordeal than mad... i mean, the new charger didn't cost that much and now i can charge my batteries wherever i want, whenever i want. in the car, in the bathroom, at work, etc. oh boy.

in other news, i think i am getting sick. my throat was hurting last night although it doesn't feel too shabby right now. i took a cold fx last night and this morning, even though i sort of believe they are placebos. if i am getting sick, it really explains the laziness and lethargy i've been feeling this week. i just have no energy. this morning i didn't swim but i did do a 20-minute hatha yoga (#1 - our fav) and it felt amazing. my cat likes to rub me with his body while i am trying to be serene.

tonight i am going to the movies with my best girlfriend to see shopaholic. can't wait! i am going to get a sub from subway and sneak it into the movies. i love contraband food.

believe it or not

so yesterday mid-afternoon, my bf and i are shopping on queen street. we come across this store that sells vintage dresses and new dresses - i like some that are hanging outside on sale, so we go in. there is a saleswoman there who starts helping me. she is between 50 and 60 years old, tall, average weight, stringy grey hair. for the record i find salespeople who push things on you kind of annoying... shopping is annoying.

so this woman refuses to bring me any dress that is not a size medium. she said, "you look like a medium," like she's been around the block a few times. okay. the dresses are too big, but she doesn't think so. she keeps bringing me dresses that aren't my style, which is fine, but at this point i kind of want to be left alone.

i picked out this cute vintage summer dress and tried it on. the straps attached at the back with buttons, and one was missing. and it zipped up at the back. it was very fitted, but i thought really cute. i couldn't zip it up all the way at the back because i couldn't reach. i don't have gumby arms!

anyhoo, so i come out of the changeroom and my bf says, "cute" and i say, "i like it too." then the saleslady says, "it is too small. you are too big for that dress. look at you. you are popping out of it. you can't even zip it up at the back." i get my bf to finish zipping it up —it's fine. i say, "i like it. i think it looks good," and she says, "well, i think it's too small. i mean, you can buy it if you want, i'm not going to stop you, but it doesn't look good and it doesn't fit." WHAT KIND OF SALESLADY IS THIS? the worst one ever?

so the button is missing and i ask for a discount, but as it turns out the owner of the store found the button on the floor earlier in the day and sewed it on for me, which is great. then as the rude saleslady is ringing up my purchase she says, "oh, so you decided to get this dress, hmmmm? well, i guess you'll have to skip a few lunches!"

skip a few lunches? believe it or not people, believe it or not.

running champion

good morning everyone. i had photoshop last night until ten so i stayed pretty much on my eating plan... until i got home and was starvin' like marvin. i had soup, a dad's oatmeal cookie, a few pieces of beef jerky (i know beef jerky? wtf), and social tea cookies. mmmm social tea cookies are soooo good. coming home last night was also overwhelming because movers came in the day dropping off a thousand boxes and pieces of furniture from my uncle's apartment. ok, not a thousand. but a lot. his old desk, tv cabinet (which is kind of ugly... unsure unsure!), computer stuff, kitchen stuff (george foreman, blender, better kettle, etc), printer, weird metal storage things. lots of stuff. and it's all sitting there, in my living room. my boyfriend stayed home during the day yesterday to let the movers in (nice guy!) and he did all the dishes too, so at least it was somewhat clean when i came home.

tonight is a night of organization! i seriously need to re-order my kitchen cabinets including under the sink to make room for all of my new kitchen gadgets. i hate having anything but the toaster and kettle on the counter. and the food scale, but it's little. all the stuff i don't use everyday has got to be out of sight.

oh so the title of my post, running champion. i didn't do any exercise yesterday. well, formal exercise... whatever that means. i went for a walk, probably 3 miles, at lunchtime, to get some activity in, and the sun was shining. and then i was forced to walk home last night because the streetcar never came! i only waited for a couple of minutes before deciding to walk, but i didn't see one until i was a few minutes before my get off point anyway.

this morning i woke up to go downstairs to the gym. but it was PAINFUL getting up. maybe because with the time change it's still dark outside. i finally got up after convincing myself that i'd feel like crap if i didn't go and my only excuse was being a lazy lout which isn't cool. so, since i really didn't want to do anything, i decided to run without music, to get in tune (no lame joke intended) with my body and it's movements. i warmed up for 5 minutes walking, then ran for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 35 minutes (which is where i usually would stop), but i kept going for another 10 minutes, before walking 5 minutes cool down. that's 45 minutes running without stopping. on the treadmill with no music. amazing! in total i went 5.26 miles or 8.47 kilometres. it's blowing my mind right now as i type this. why? because in the middle of september, i couldn't run at all!

in other news, i got this really interesting book at the library. it's called your diet is driving me crazy and it's about dealing with different eating habits and patterns in relationships. for example, maybe your boyfriend can eat whatever he wants without gaining weight and you can't. or maybe your partner only likes boring bland food and you like to spice it up. or maybe you are a "food cop" or are dealing with one... someone who pressures you to eat better or a certain way but does it in a pushy, negative way. anyway, so far it's cute, and easy to read. i like it and recommend it!
