ouch

the good news is that the weekend was good. the bad news is that i thought my bum pain was cured and i went for a run on saturday and now it's back with a vengeance and i can hardly walk. seriously i'm hobbling around.

i've self-diagnosed, and my problem is definitely this:

sciatica

(i've copied this next part from online)

Sciatica is a pain that shoots along the sciatic nerve, radiating through the buttocks and down the back of the leg and as far as the foot. The two sciatic nerves (one on each side of the lower body) are the longest in the human nervous system, running all the way from the lower back through the thighs and calves to the feet.

Sciatica is caused by different types of pressure on the sciatic nerve in the lower back or buttocks. It can also be the result of damage to the nerve roots that feed into the sciatic nerve. Sciatica is usually felt only on one side of the body. The pain can occur along the entire length of the sciatic nerve.

i don't think there is a chance that it can be something else. sad but true. i am going to do no impact exercising at ALL and if it doesn't feel better by wednesday i will visit the doctor.

so now that i'm not doing cardio, i'm going to have to watch my diet more carefully, especially because sunday morning is when the plane leaves for california!

in other news, i am using windows live writer to write this post and it's very interesting. the drag and drop photo feature is probably the best part.

and finally, shannon tagged me on friday to do a "5 things" thingamabob, so here we go. thanks buddy :)

Probably since it flares up when you exercise it is caused by muscle inflammation that pushes on the nerves. Ice, Ice baby...and ibuprofen or naproxen.

Hope you feel better soon :)

OOOOO, I know how painful that is. I had it during both pregnancies. Luckily they went away with the births. Definitely go see the dr. if it doesn't ease up. Hope you feel better quickly!

Ah man, the siatic nerve is one of my biggest enemies. Not a lot you can do about it either...just rest, ice and ibuprofen. Occasionally my chiropractor was able to help too.

Hope you feel better for your plane ride!

I had sciatica when I was pregnant, and I feel so bad for you - it is awful! I could barely, barely walk and I had to crawl up the stairs! I hope it feels better soon!

Did you finish your dress yet?

Man! Feel better soon, will ya? And, try to get an official diagnosis from the dr?

Why hobble to the grocery store when you could order your groceries online? They deliver, too! If we had something like grocery gateway dot com in Montreal, I'd use it and never go to the supermarket again! LOL

I used to get that all the time. Since I lost weight it's been much much less. I think that doing strength exercises on back and butt helped (like in the long term, don't do it when it's hurting). Sorry but I've found that absolutely nothing helps it when it's hurting, drugs, ice, nothing. :(

I thought I had that one time and it turned out that I wasn't stretching enough and was totally too tight in my hamstrings. Good luck, hope you are feeling better!

I've known two ppl with sciatica. One was due to a pregnancy, and one was due to a broken back (no joke - crushed vertabrae). The pregnancy one went away when the baby was born, and the broken bac k one still flares up and the initial injury was over 5 years ago.

Essentially, if it's sciatica it will hurt until whatever is pinching the nerve releases!

Hope you feel better!
