vanity sizing

vanity sizing

this really annoys me.

why? because i am a reasonably sized person. when i shop in thrift stores i have a hard time zipping up dresses (i have wide shoulders) but at the joe fresh loblaws store, an xs is much too large. i am swimming in size 4 pants. this is ridiculous.

yes, i am a thin person and generally have small bone structure but i'm not a little elf or anything. i understand that sizes in stores vary and that's fine, but what is the purpose of convincing ourselves we are not as large as we actually are? vanity? doesn't seem worth it to me.

that is crazy about marilyn monroe and that girl both being size 14. marilyn was more like a size 6. i have never really ran into vanity sizing, i am always the same size in everying.

I hear ya! When I was around the 112-115 mark I was wearing a size 0 AE jean. Let me tell you, I may have been getting slim but I was still no size 0, more like a 5/6. Vanity sizing is a pain.

I'm going to say the opposite, love vanity sizing, bring it on! I know that is against the norm but I love getting thrown a bone and getting in a slightly smaller labelled size.. I am perfectly aware I'm not that size everywhere but when you start at a plus size 26/28 getting anything close to a single regular size digit is a freaking thrill! :0)

I am annoyed with th vanity sizing. I don't care what the call sizes for crying out loud, I just wish they'd keep it consistant. If they wanted to name sizes by colors that would be fine (I'm a size blue) but just don't switch it up all the time! I hate going to different stores and having no idea what size to get. And also, it stopped me from realizing I gained weight. I was getting fatter, yet buying smaller sizes so I assumed everything was fine. Confusing.

I can see why it's a bit of a thrill picking up a smaller size, but I'm with Randi. I wish sizes were consistent! Now, whenever I try something on, I have to bring in 3 of each item in different sizes... it sucks. And Wheebs - what is up with the size 0? Now they even have size 00 and 000. Seriously? 000? A stick figure should be at least a digit over 0!

I'm with you! So frustrating!
Joe clothign is the wirst, I tried on a size XS in something they had and it still wasn't really fitted. Usually I am a size medium so I would only assume that the people who actually ARE an XS can't even shop there, must be frustrating for them too I guess!
Each store runs differently and the worst part is that when people buy you clothes, you can never tell them what size you are because it all depends on where they shop!

As much as I like to see that I'm an 8 at Banana Republic and GAP deep down I know that I'm a 10/12 normally.

The realy dangerous thing is how if I stay a 10 my whole life I will slowly be getting fatter without really noticing it. Makes it easier to be overweight!

I'm with you and Randi...I don't care what size I am.. I just want some kind of sizing regulations. I'm sick of spending an hour trying on 3 different sizes of pants everywhere I go!

I recently posted a blog similar to this one based on a shopping trip. I can wear smalls and 6's from the Women's department but wear larges and 9's from the Juniors dept. I can go to JCP and get in size 5 Arizona jeans. I'm about 5'3, 130 right now and that leaves me wondering what skinny people wear---negative 5's?? I hate the lack of consistency with clothing.
