orange you glad you didn't eat it?

let me start by saying i knew talking about pet store pets would open a can of worms. hmmm fitting.

i forgot to tell you about this horrible, horrible thing that happened to me on saturday.

my boyfriend and i have the same saturday morning routine. sleep in, and then he'll listen to reggae music and cook breakfast while i go and exercise. it used to be running, now it's swimming. he always makes the same breakfast too: chicken bacon, egg omelet made with 3 eggs and whites, and toast, sometimes fruit too. can you tell we like routines?

anyway, last saturday i decided that we should split an orange as part of our breakfast. yum yum citrus goodness. it is hard and takes forever to peel but i do it. then i split it in half and jump back when i see a dark spot appear in the centre of the orange. what could it be? i recoil and drop the orange onto the counter. my boyfriend asks, "what are you screeching about?" as i cautiously take a step toward the orange. i touch it gently, opening it slowly... and...

INSIDE IS A GIANT MAGGOT EATING MY ORANGE!

the horror, the horror! all of the dark stuff inside was its poop. the end. wasn't that a pleasant story? sick! once at an outdoor music festival i bit into a peach and a little worm popped out... eeeeeewwwwww.

that's all i've got. another 40 minutes swimming this morning. i need to get some yoga in! tonight maybe (date night) and tomorrow for sure.

fruit

yesterday i dyed my hair dark brown. this is the colour i normally dye it. it's so dark this time i really look like a goth. this is emphasized by my hair sticking up everywhere crazy when i get up in the morning. i love my new short hair, but i have to make more of an effort to be feminine all of the time. i'm talking makeup and clothes. i don't mind because i am into that kind of stuff.

this morning i made (boiled) a batch of wheatberries. a batch (for me) is 1 cup dry. this time i let them soak overnight, then rinsed this morning, then boiled for an hour with some salt. they are so chewy and tasty but time consuming to cook, which is why i've been putting it off. i like to eat them in yogurt or oatmeal. yummo!

the topic of today's post is fruit. what is your favourite fruit?

i love all berries the best. raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and bloobs.

i also love bananas because they are so filling and feel so substantial.

peaches are so delicious but i hate when they are too juicy. my mouth likes it but my pants (drip drip) do not.

green seedless grapes... the bigger the better. i like to mix vanilla yogurt with a bit of soymilk and then eat grape soup. weird but the grapes taste really good coated in a milky yogurt.

apples are alright. they taste good but are a little boring to me. sorry apples.

clementines... who doesn't love these since they remind you of the christmas season.

i'm trying to think of what other fruits i eat on a regular basis. not melons because i loathe the taste of all melons. yes, even watermelon... gross. kiwis are good. mangos are good too but have the same juicy problem as peaches. anything else to add?

oh, i almost forgot about the movie last night. it was good to see those girls again all in one movie, but it was too confusing. they combined the last three books into one movie and there just wasn't enough time for all of the plots. they left stuff out, added weird stuff... the movie was too long and the actual movie time was wasted. i am a tough movie critic so take that as you will.

feels like friday

but it's only thursday. starting this week my work has been doing "summer hours" which sounds like a nice idea because on friday you get to go home at 1pm (sweet) but you have to make up the time on the other days which makes for some pretty long, tedious days.

last night was sewing class. trust me people, i am not a good sewer although i am improving and practice is the only thing i can do. last week we didn't do any sewing and this week i was expected to serge my fabric and i forgot how to thread the machine. not the serger, whoever can thread that crazy machine is a genius, but the regular machine. i felt like such a dumb dora. but it turned out okay. i serged around the edges of all my fabric and by the end felt very confident about my serging and then i made darts in the top of the dress, which is basically sewing triangles into the fabric so that it fits around your body. like the pleats on a pant, although who wears pleated pants i don't know!

this morning i ran 3 x 10 minutes at the gym, and did arm weights and sit-ups in between. short but good workout.

i am reading this book about running. "the real woman's guide to running," by liz yelling. it's alright. it talks about how to get started running (if you don't run), and how to go longer and faster if you already run. i like that it is all geared to women. it talks about what you need for summer and winter running, what to eat, what to expect... there are event training programs for 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon and marathon races, for beginners, and for seasoned runners.

i am also reading "remember me?" by sophie kinsella, author of those shopaholic books. i love reading chick lit, especially in the summer. :)

speaking of summer, it seems that this summer i am obsessed with fruit. it's nature's candy and it's sooooo good. i love it all (except melons... bleh). today i am eating raspberries, blackberries, cherries (with my breakfast), a banana and a peach with my lunch, and an apple for a snack. mmmmm fruit.
